Make no mistake: a lab grown diamond is a real diamond. It's carbon, exposed to the same high heat and pressure that they'd be exposed to in a natural environment. They are real diamonds, not synthetic ones.
They're just as hard. They have the same chemical properties. They have the same scintillation, sparkle, and coloration. It takes specialized equipment to even tell them apart.
So what's the advantage of one or the other?
Price
Lab grown diamonds aren't less expensive because they're less valued. They're less expensive because they don't have to wind their way through a long supply chain to get to you.
Natural diamonds are of course quite rare, which can contribute to the increase in price. The price of the diamond, however, does not detract from its beauty or essential symbolism.
Ethics
Diamond mining does a great deal of destruction to the environment. Lab grown diamonds don't do any damage, which means you can wear them proudly.
In addition, every lab grown diamond is conflict-free. Around the world, diamonds are mined using child labor. Many of theses miners die during tunnel collapses, working without PPE or other safety equipment. Some workers don't even get paid until and unless they find a stone.
With lab grown diamonds, you always know where your diamonds are coming from.
You decide!
There are some people who love the idea of owning something rare and hard to find. For them, nothing but a mined diamond will do.
Others will be just as happy—perhaps happier—with a lab grown diamond. Only you know the personality and priorities of the person you're purchasing the diamond for. In this, there is no "better" or "worse," just personal preference and values.
